Mary Hopkin (A.K.A. Mary Hopkins): Wales, Pontardaw, 50년생, 68년 데뷔, 1968~72 (4년)간이 본인 음악활동의 황금기, 청아한 음색으로 인하여 "Folk Song의 요정"이라 불린 Female Folk Singer Songwriter, The Beatles가 설립한 Apple Record社에서 발굴한 제1호 신인, Pau McCartney가 Manager 역할, Producer인 Tony Visconti와 72년 결혼하면서 잠정적 은퇴했다가 음악에 대한 열정을 버리지 못하고 76년 음악 활동에 복귀한 뮤지션으로 Vocal 뿐만 아니라 Guitar, Harmonica도 연주 실력 겸비, 69, 71년 정규 앨범 2장 및 싱글 20여장만 발매, 우리나라 뿐만아니라 英/美에서도 Mary Hopkins라 부르지만 정확한 뮤지션명은 Mary Hopkin이 맞음.

Pau McCartney의 추천으로 Apple Record사와 계약을 맺은 그녀는 68년 첫 싱글 "Those Were The Days"를 발표해 UK Chart No.1 & US Hot 100 No.2에 올려놓았다. 71년에는 유명한 Folk Rock Group인 "Strawbs"의 보컬리스트인 Dave Cousins가 참여한 앨범「Earth Song」을 발표했고, 같은 해에 Mary Hopkin은 프로듀서 Tony Visconti와 결혼식을 올렸다. 음악계 숨은 실력자인 Tony Visconti는 영국 출신으로 Joe Cocker, T. Rex, Gentle Giant, Thin Lizzy, David Bowie 등 Rock, Progressive Rock (= Art Rock), New Wave까지 넘나들며 많은 뮤지션들의 앨범 제작에 참여한 Producer이다. 결혼 후 공연 활동을 성공리에 마친 Mary Hopkin은 한동안 공백기를 가지며 가족과 함께 그 시간을 보냈다. 그러던 중 76년 UK Chart Top 40 진입곡을 발표하며 팝음악계에 복귀했다. 그녀는 역시 영국 뮤지션으로 평소 친분이 두터웠던 David Bowie의 77년도 앨범 「Low」의 Backing Vocal을 맡아 주기도 했는가 하면 79년에는 자신의 앨범 「The Weish World Of Mary Hopkin」을 발매하였으나 저조한 반응을 보였다. Female Vocalist로 70년대 초반을 장식했던 Mary Hopkin은 청량항 음색으로 노래하여 맑고 상큼한 분위기로 인기를 받았다. 그러나 80년대로 접어들면서 그녀는 주목할 만한 활동을 전개하지 않았으며 서서히 음악팬들의 기억속에서 잊혀져갔다.
