Bette Midler - The Rose
'1945년 뉴저지주 패터슨에서 출생해서 '70년대를 풍미했던 'Bette Midler''90년 그래미 시상식에서
'Wind Beneath My Wings' 로 'Song Of The Year' 수상과 빌보드지, 뉴스 위크 지가 뽑은 올해의
노래로 선정. '79년 영화 'The Rose'에 출연하며 동명의 주제가도 불러 아카데미상까지 수상하였다.
이 노래는 우연히 이 세상에 나오게 됐다.이 노래를 만든 사람은 Amanda McBroom인데,그녀는 노래를
부르고 가끔 흥얼거리며 작곡을 하는 걸 취미로 하던 아마추어 작곡가였다. 그녀가 Leo Sayer의 노래
Magdalena를 듣고 그 가사에서 영감을 받아 이 노랫말을 지었고 채 10분도 안 걸려 곡조도 붙였다.
1년 쯤 뒤인 1979년 직업적으로 작곡을 하는 친구가 이 노래를 듣고 나서 The Rose 라는 영화의 주제곡
으로 이 노래를 한 번 응모해 보지 않겠느냐고 제의 했다. 이 영화는 전설적인 Janis Joplin의 일대기를
다룬 영화로서 Bette Midler가 주연으로 출연하는 영화였다. 영화 제작진은 처음에 이 노래를 듣고
찬송가 같다며 거절했었는데 Bette Midler가 좋아하게 되자 이 영화의 주제곡으로 채택되었다.
이로써 Amanda McBroom의 운명이 바뀌게 되었다.주연을 맡은 Bette Midler도 Golden Globe상을
받았고, Academy 에서도 주연여우에 지명 되었기 때문 이다..
